Derek Ramsay is again working on a film for ABS-CBN’s movie production and distribution outfit since his last appearance in a Star Cinema project nearly two years ago.
Last Monday, the former kapamilya actor attended the story conference for the upcoming movie “Kasal” under the direction of Ruel S. Bayani. Also Present in the conference was the “A Love To Last” actress Bea Alonzo and the star of “A Promise of Forever” Paulo Avelino, they will also star in the said movie. “All You Need Is Pag-ibig” was the last film of Ramsay with Star Cinema back in 2015, it was a romatic-comedy film.
Derek Ramsay career start early in the 2000s as an MTV VJ, his also a model and a well-known TV commercial actor. He was known for his supporting roles in the television dramas of ABS-CBN like Ysabella, Habang May Buhay and Magkaribal. He also appeared in the commercially successful films I Love You Goodbye, The Unkabogable Praybeyt Benjamin and No Other Woman. In April 2012, Ramsay transferred to TV5 and signed a three-year contract. This move of the actor created a silent ban for him in promoting his movie in the kapamilya network. For almost three years finally the actor set foot again in the kapamilya network for his movie Ex With Benefits, a movie produce by the network ABS-CBN under Star Cinema. After his contract expired in February 2015, he signed again another three-year contract with the network TV5.
In an interview made by ABS-CBN after the story conference, Ramsay expressed his excitement on working again with director Bayani and Bea Alonzo. Director Bayani and Ramsay worked together in the 2011 box office hit “No Other Woman”, while Alonzo and Ramsay worked together in the 2007 hit film “One More Chance” and the 2010 series “Magkaribal”. According to Ramsay he has been looking forward to work again with Bea. They worked together both on the big screen and TV. He added that a lot of what he applied to his career and the roles that he played, he have to give some credit to Bea because he learned a lot from actress; with how the actress treated her career and how the actress attacks her character.
Ramsay shared that his excited to work again with actress Bea Alonzo so that he will learn more. Moreover, he said that the job of an actor is to always learn, always try to better himself and his craft. He also consider his role in “Kasal” the most complicated character he has ever played in his career as of now. He said that he is very excited with the complicated character that he’ll be going to play and he is also excited to work with such brilliant cast and working again with direct Ruel Bayani.
The other cast of the movie is Bea Alonzo. The actress career started in 2002 where she played a role in Television series Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay. It was followed by her television drama It Might Be You, Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin, Maging Sino Ka Man and Maging Sino Ka Man: Ang Pagbabalik. In June 2008, Alonzo released her debut album The Real Me under Star Records. In mid-2008 it was announced that she would play the leading character Betty Pengson in the TV sitcom Yo Soy Betty La Fea, which originated from America.
The Philippines’ version was entitled I Love Betty La Fea. The show premiered in the same year also at the primetime slot. It ran for eight consecutive months. The actress also made lots of movies under ABS-CBN to name a few A Second Chance, One More Chance, The Mistress, How To Be Yours, The Love Affair, She’s The One, Four Sister And a Wedding, Miss You Like Crazy, Now That I Have You and many more.
Bea Alonzo is really a hard working individual, her series “A Love to Last” may have aired its last finale few months ago but work continues for this actress. Now, she will star in a new movie still with Star Cinema. Asked about her busy schedule, she said that she feels blessed to have a lot of projects. She added that it is nice to be busy than to be idle doing nothing.
And to the “A Love to Last“ actress Bea Alonzo she admitted that she also missed working with Derek Ramsay. In her statement “Sa totoo lang na-miss ko siyang ka-eksena. Feeling ko mag-e-enjoy kami sa first scene naming together. First time naming gagawa ng ganitong klaseng pelikula. So it’s exciting kasi it’s totally different. Parang it’s new for him and for me in a movie, so extra exciting for me,” (Honestly, I so miss casting with him. I feel that we will both enjoy our first scene together. It will be our first encounter in making this kind of movie. It is so exciting because it is totally different. It is new for him and for me also in a movie, so extra exciting for me.)
The additional actor to cast in the movie is Paulo Avelino. The career of the dubbed as Prince of Philippine Teleserye started at GMA network in 2006 and transferred to ABS-CBN in mid-2011. He wanted to explore out of his comfort zone and same time reinvent himself as an actor were his reason of signing contract with the kapamilya network. In his current network ABS-CBN he gained popularity and learns a lot.
He gained prominence for his role as Nathan Montenegro in 2012 hit series Walang Hanggan. He won the Gawad Urian Award Best Actor for the film Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa. He starred in Kahit Konting Pagtingin and Honesto in 2013, Sana Bukas pa ang Kahapon in 2014, and Bridges of Love in 2015 with Jericho Rosales and Maja Salvador. He was cast as Simon Evangelista in the Primetime Bida Show “On the Wings of Love”. He was the third wheel to James Reid and Nadine Lustre in the series. Now in 2017 he was currently starring with ABS-CBN newcomer Ritz Azul in the television series The Promise of Forever.
Paulo Avelino on the other hand described the upcoming movie as exciting. He said that based on the synopsis that the team sent to them, he thinks that it is going to be an interesting film to watch. He is pretty sure that they are going to bring something new. Paulo Avelino already worked with Bea Alonzo in the series “Sana Bukas Pa Ang Kahapon” last 2014.The Philippine melodrama romantic business crime mystery suspense thriller television series. The drama was named after the 1983 film of the same name. The series was aired on ABS-CBN’s Primetime Bida evening block and worldwide on The Filipino Channel. The story revolves around two women who will be united by fate and their hunger to seek truth and justice – Emmanuelle played by Bea Alonzo, a feisty lawyer and Rose played by Bea Alonzo also, the kind hearted heiress of the Buena Crillo chocolate company who will be accused of a crime she did not commit. Paulo Avelino played the role Patrick Salavador a chocolatier of Rose’s company that eventually fell in love to Rose and got married. Tragic events happened that leads to the other character of Bea Alonzo to show up in the teleserye. And the story goes on.
Back to the Kasal movie, it will be directed by the award winning director Ruel Bayani. According to the director Bayani, “Kasal” is about three person with adult complex characters whose lives pass across. He added that one wants to stop the wedding, one wants to proceed with the wedding and there’s a woman between them who is trying to decide who to choose, which wedding to go to. So the movie is about difficult choices.
The director is also looking forward to work with the three stars. The waiting for almost five years to work on a film is every bit worth it, because his getting the perfect cast to play in the movie with very interesting and complex story. According to him, they will start shooting in the coming weeks.
The movie will be released in cinemas next year. He said that he is very happy that he has three brilliant actors who are accomplished at this stage of their careers and meet up to do the film. He said in addition that it is known that he only do movies that have daring genre. And what is exciting here that the all of them are ready and willing to stretch themselves, expand themselves to challenge themselves, to try on different kind characters.
It is not the typical thing that they do. He added that we all know that the daring part will be a talking point of the movie but he stressed out that they are all mature filmmakers and that the focus of the film should be on the story. Usually mature stories required a lot of sensitivity, require a lot of understanding and commitment for it to be deliver to the audience.
