Herminio Jose Lualhati Alcasid Jr. know to us as Ogie Alcasid has extended his exclusive contract with ABS-CBN until 2019, announced last Tuesday October 17.
In the last quarter of 2016 it was rumoured that the actor will switched network again after his consecutive guesting in the said network. In December 2016 it was confirmed that Ogie Alcasid will transfer back to the kapamilya network.
A short biography of this small but terrible man, he was born on the 27th of August 1967. He is a Filipino singer and songwriter, comedian, actor, presenter and parodist. He completed his elementary and secondary education in La Salle Greenhills and finished his college education in University of the Philippines Diliman. He got married in 1996 to an Australian beauty queen Michelle Van Eimeren, who represented Australia in the 1994 Miss Universe pageant held in the Philippines. The couple had two children Leila and Sarah. However, the couple announced that they have been separated in 2007. He then remarried in 2010 to the singer actress Regine Velasquez at a resort in Nasugbu Batangas. He and Regine have a son name Nathaniel James born on November 8, 2011. He also a business man who owns the chain of hot dog stands Oggie Doggie, co-owner of Ryu Ramen and Curry Restaurant.
Ogie shared on one of his interview that the jumpstart of his showbiz career was really in ABS-CBN 25 years ago. He remembered co-hosting with Janno Gibbs back 1991 a TV show entitled “Small Brothers”. From 1991 to 1992 he appeared in the sitcom “Mana-Mana”. He also co-hosted with Amy Perez and Roderick Paulate from 1994 to 1996 the game show “Game Na Game Na”. He said that they recall everything to me, that he really started there. The actor remember the most was the fact that he met his first wife Michelle Van Eimeren when he tapped to be the celebrity tour guide of the 1994 Miss Universe pageant candidates by the ABS-CBN management. He recall what Cory vidanes said to him that how would you like to be seen all over the world? He responded how is that possible? Cory Vidanes said “You will be the tourist guide of all the candidates”. The singer-actor shared that up until today he remember that event of his life. Like it was just yesterday when it happened, still fresh in his memory. He was introduce to the worldwide audience as Manolo, the tourist guide of the 1994 Miss Universe candidates during their stay in the country. He unwittingly competed for attention with the more than eighty plus beauties from across the universe. Though, of shorter height compared to the candidates, he refused to be dwarfed by the towering ladies and he won not just the crown but the hearts of his fellow Filipinos that time. He said in the interview that it was here in ABS-CBN that he was introduced to the world and actually seen by an international audience because of Miss Universe. He added that if we remember this is where I also met my first wife. In mentioning his ex-wife he was asked about new of his ex-wife, he just shared that the beauty queen was doing blogging and happy about it.
Ogie was also asked on an interview if the reason for jumping ship was about money. The multitalented actor clarified that getting a bigger talent fee has never been the deciding factor for him to switch networks. While the actor acknowledge that money is a valid consideration when it comes to making a career move but it is not on top of his list. He said money matters is the topic that he don’t really want to talk about. He think that it is unethical to talk about it. It has never been the priority of him. He added that he will go where the work is and he stand by that. Four years ago he jumped to TV 5 from his 18 years career in GMA network. He elaborated that he was close to Manny V. Pangilinan that needed help for his network, he was just there to help. It was a commitment that he made and he fulfilled that commitment. Now he was being offered to work again with ABS-CBN he grabbed the opportunity. He said it was never about money, it was about work.
He started his career as a singer in 1989 with his timeless hit single “Nandito Ako”, singer-songwriter monicker was born when started creating music. He takes pride in and is credited as the creator of some of the most well-loved and award-winning OPM love songs. He already released 18 albums, including a Christmas album, a live album and four greatest hits albums. He has received a total of twelve gold records, three platinum records and three double platinum records. Aside from his success in the music industry, he had a fruitful movie career. His debut movie was released in 1990 by Regal Entertainment entitled Feel Na Feel. This was followed by his 2nd movie Tiny Terrestrial: The Tiny Professors released by OctoArts films in 1991 and on the same year, the actor made his VIVA films debut movie “Pitong Gamol”. He have been casted in more than 40 films. The multitalented Ogie Alcasid hosted many shows to mention a few The Philippine version of Family Feud on ABC-5 in 2001, Fastbreak a former basketball game show on IBC 13 in 2002, Celebrity Duets: Philippine Edition on GMA. The actor proves that he is jack of all trades in show business when he headed the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) as the president. He also acts as the Commissioner of the EDSA People Power Commission and one of the proponents of the Pinoy Music Council that drafted the Executive Order asking to make September 5 of every year as “Araw ng Musikang Pilipino” in support of Original Pinoy Music. He has received several awards that includes Awit Awards Best Revival Recording (PAGKAKATAON), Popular Male Recording Artist, Representative to the 1990 ASEAN SONG FESTIVAL in Kuala Lumpur, Awit Awards Best Performance By a Male Recording Artist, Winner of PMOC Star awards for TV Best Comedy Actor of 2000, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2010; and many more.
The OPM icon has been the judge on “Tawag ng Tanghalan” on “It’s Showtime” and “Your Face Sounds Familiar Kids” since his transfer to the Kapamilya network last January. He also released an album under Star Magic the ABS-CBN’s music label. Talking about the album, it was the first project of the premiere ensemble with a solo artist, also a history in the local music industry. He shared that a song always best when it is with the orchestra as there are lot of things you cannot do with software that the orchestra can deliver. He added that it was the biggest dream of his life to work with the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra. His first Star Music album was produced by Jonathan Manalo.
It was revealed at his contract signing last October 17 that he will continue to be part of “Tawag ng Tanghalan”, ASAP, and will again be a judge of the planned new season of “Your Face Sounds Familiar”.
In the singer, actor and comedian Instagram post he captioned “Praise Jesus!” The actor was thankful for the opportunity that the network give to him. The actor shared some photos of his contract signing in the social media, in attendance was ABS-CBN executives, led by president and CEO Carlo Katigbak. The actor signed a two-year contract with the network.
Though his wife Regine Velasquez is a bet disappointed about Billy Crawford chosen to host the show “Little Big Shots” he still choose to sign a contract to the network because he understand and appreciates the network’s honesty about everything. According to the singer-actor that he was just thankful to ABS-CBN that they even consider him, that he was given the opportunity to do the mock shoot. And he was so happy that the project went to Billy Crawford. He was very proud of him. He added that it is obvious that Billy deserves the spot more than him. He even texted Billy, saying that he is one hundred percent support to Billy all the way and wish him all the success. He also stressed out that it was not ABS-CBN but the international franchise owner’s decision to get Crawford to host the show.
The decision of returning to ABS-CBN early this year boiled down to being presented with more opportunities said by the singer, actor comedian Ogie Alcasid. He said that he don’t want to base his position on anything else but where he needed most at this point.
There is a big man inside this person though short in height. He has so much to give and more to come up with his a good singing voice, a talent to write good songs and a skill to lead a pack makes him stand out from the rest.
