The story of the movie 'Heneral Luna' doesn’t end there. Its sequel is set to be released in 2018. This will be a three part series about the lives of Filipino heroes.
Director Jerrold Tarog admitted, he is now nearly halfway through shooting his project, Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral.
With the hectic schedule of Paulo Avelino, he said, he enjoyed doing his role in 'Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral. The actor is also promoting his show, aside from Goyo, The Promise of Forever and the movie Ang Larawan. Also starring in the movie are Rachelle Alejandro and Joanna Ampil. The actor is busy indeed.
What does Director Jerrold Tarog say about the actor Paulo Avelino?
Jerrold Tarog said that he and the actor had already mastered each other’s pace. He was working with the actor for two other films already, including the successful “Heneral Luna”. He continued, “He’s good, he’s really good.” He keeps surprising us. He does things we don't expect.
At the press conference of The Promise of Forever last August, Paulo talks about his challenges in filming Goyo. I’ll be honest, it’s not easy shooting the movie. We are transferring from different places. We are on our 3rd or 4th location now. The weather condition is of great consideration also. It is not making us easier, there are locations that only 4x4 cars can go up the mountains and we have to trek to arrive there.
They are filming the movie in different locations. According to the actor, they shot a lot of important scenes based on what director Jerrold Tarog gave us.
The audience has many things to keep watch of this movie. They are still in the production process, but the actor said, that the audience will surely get many lessons from the film, when it comes out in the late 2018.
Let’s wait until the release, late 2018. We can now see the teaser uploaded in the internet. This will be a great historical revelation to the Filipinos.
The movie Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral will start right after where Heneral Luna ended. The life of Gregorio Del Pilar will now be the focus, known for his youth leadership and his military success in the Philippine Revolution. History revelation.
Gregorio Del Pilar was so young when he became general. There's a part of him, that's immature. How did he show his courage and leadership as a young person who brought military success to the Filipino people.
The film will have a parallelism between the maturity of Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral and our maturity as a nation.
Paulo Avelino, felt the importance of the role upon receiving the research materials.
After reading all the materials and the script, it’s a beautiful scrip, Paulo said. The challenging part is finding historical facts and references of the hero.
This is a journey of a young boy who became a general, sacrificing his life, but he did it for his country. Paulo wanted to play the role so well that the people will see Goyo as a human being. As a young boy, that’s handling a big responsibility for his fellow countrymen.
Given the power and the great responsibility for a young boy’s control. He will either be consumed by the power or he will self-destruct. It will be a journey, a journey of how this young boy saved the Filipinos.
It’s a story of how an immature general thinking of his fame and heroic actions turns to be a man maturing into someone giving his self for the Filipinos.
Paulo plays an immortal man in the Promise of Forever. Meeting a woman on a cruise whom he rescued when she was still a child. And then boom! They fall in love with each other.
Paulo also did “Ang Larawan” which is set to come out very soon. Paulo enjoyed living in different eras of the movies.
Believing, you try to get an experience living or being in an era that you weren't born or that you weren't even aware of. That’s a nice thing.
Paulo enjoyed reliving the past. Acting and believing you are actually there. Wearing different costumes and their own language too. Doing it all in different locations.
Compared to the success of Heneral Luna, Jerrold Tarog shared that shooting Goyo is different and even more challenging.
Tarog continued, sometimes we get overwhelmed when we get to the set because it's that big, sharing that some scenes have up to 600 people that need blocking. It's overwhelming sometimes, but we're happy because we can make films like this. We are very fortunate.
They aimed to finish the film by October. Alternating shooting days and editing days.
The director is so focused on filming Goyo. That even when he was asked about the awards or box office success, he commented, all I'm thinking of is shooting everyday. He is not thinking of anything else. Let’s focus first on the now. What is happening now and the result will just follow.
The director is placing full focus on Goyo, not even the idea of awards or box office success can distract him. This is really a big film, he is doing.
Let’s wait until 2018. Tarog confirmed that it will be coming out in late 2018. As of this moment there focus is on the full production.
Still, the hope of getting a box office is in every director’s mind.

The director and producer wanted to maintain the quality of “Heneral Luna.”
With the success of “Heneral Luna," grossing more than P200 million. It is the most successful historical film in the country's box-office history.

Paul shared his feelings with the public while preparing for Goyo that he was very excited and nervous. He’s been preparing for this for a long time. And now, here it is.
The movie was well planned, studied and researched. The people behind Goyo knows about the film. The vision and mission was clear. What we want to project and show to the people.
Finally the shooting has now started and everyone is excited about Goyo.
He further said that, the part of him (Gregorio Del Pilar) that I could relate to is he was given a very big responsibility at a very young age. And Paulo can relate to that in a lot of ways in his personal life. Paulo was learning many things about the history and more about Gregorio Del Pilar him that surprised him. Gregorio was hit by a grazed bullet in the head one time during one of his campaigns.
Gregorio del Pilar was also known to be a good-looking person. There was even a joke that came out, that he had many girlfriends. In every town that they come to pass by during his leadership.
But when Paulo was asked he’s too handsome for the role, he said, well, I’m not too handsome I think. He was learning more about our history and our Philippine heroes too.
Director Jerrold Tarog made a great effort for this film. He is on the verge of exposing the lives of the great men, the heroes of the Filipinos. And this will have a great impact on the viewers. They will have a clearer knowledge of the people who fought and sacrificed their lives for their fellow countrymen.
